  Job Description

  Position Description

  Conducts research aligned with Argonne’s strategic missions. With mentoring, develops advanced analytics for modeling energy systems and apply these tools to conduct research on the planning and operation of energy systems with high penetrations of variable renewable energy (VRE). Applies expertise in systems engineering and analysis to evaluate alternatives and communicate findings to support decisions on energy infrastructure development, environmental assessment, operational safety risks, and creation of sustainable business models for innovative energy technology. Assist in research into resilience assessment and enhancement of critical infrastructure, including oil and gas operations, bulk power system, electric grid, gas network, and other critical assets.

  Position Requirements

  Minimum Education/Experience Requirements:

  The prospective candidate is expected to hold a Ph.D. in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, computer science, or a closely related field.

  Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  Considerable knowledge on systems engineering and process improvement.

  Considerable knowledge on energy system modeling, simulation, and optimization methods.

  Considerable knowledge of oil and gas, VRE, and energy storage technology.

  Experience in techno-economic assessment of energy technology.

  Experience in oil and gas facility operations.

  Good communication skills, verbal and written, and ability to interact as a contributing member of engineering teams on scientific projects
