  Job Description

We are looking for an innovative and motivated individual with technical expertise in tumor immunology and cancer cell biology to conduct a highly ambitious project targeting immune-checkpoint proteins in leukemia cells. The ideal candidate will possess a PhD degree in a life science, like cellular or molecular biology, with research experience and an excellent knowledge-base in cell biology, tumor immunology, and signaling process as they relate to tumor-stroma interactions. Experience in leukemia, primary cell culture of T cells and NK cells, the quantitative measurement of RNA expression, flow cytometry, humanized monoclonal antibodies, big data analysis, and/or the use of animal models would be a plus. The applicant should enjoy providing a training role for students and other coworkers, and should be open to scientific collaboration within a large research group. The candidate should possess excellent written and spoken (English) communication skills.

The task: Development of monoclonal antibodies to target immune checkpoint proteins in leukemia cells through series of immune cell mediated cytotoxicity assays such as chromium release assay, apoptosis and cell death assays. The ultimate goal of this project is to develop therapeutic (chimeric/fully humanized) antibodies to target immune checkpoint proteins that are overexpressed in leukemia cells. The postdoctoral fellow will collaborate with related investigators in an interdisciplinary research project that involves basic cell culture, flow cytometry/sorting, immune cell mediated cytotoxicity assays, DNA/RNA isolation/analysis, and the use of immuno-competent/deficient mouse models. The postdoctoral fellow will present relevant scientific findings at project meetings, National and international conferences, and via publication in top-tier scientific publications.

Interested candidates should email their CV to Dr. Batula at: vbattula@mdanderson.org with a subject line stating “Postdoctoral position-2 in your laboratory”
