Postdoc position within coastal ecosystem metabolism

  Aarhus University (AU)

  Aarhus C, Denmark

Department of Bioscience at Aarhus University invites applications for a one-year post doc position within the topic: “Effects of benthic habitats on coastal ecosystem metabolism”. The position is available from as soon as possible.

The candidate must have research experience within the field of application of high frequency sensor based sampling of physical and chemical data. Experiences should cover, handling large complex time series data sets in software such as R, to perform QA/QC of data and experiences with modelling of metabolic rates using inverse modelling techniques.

The post doc project is expected to produce a thorough analysis of spatial and temporal variations in coastal ecosystem metabolic rates in test sites in Limfjorden, Denmark. Focus of the analysis will be to assess the importance of different habitats for magnitude and variability in aquatic metabolic rates. Besides analysis of data, the candidate will contribute to writing a report on the importance of boulder reefs on the physical, chemical and biological functioning in Limfjorden.

  Qualifications

The successful candidate must have a PhD in aquatic sciences, marine ecology or a closely related field. Documented experience with measurement and analysis of high frequency data for the analysis of aquatic metabolism is a clear advantage.

  Organisation

Department of Bioscience is organized in 17 different sections working within the areas of freshwater, marine and terrestrial science, wild life ecology, biodiversity, physiology and ecotoxicology. The postdoc position is situated in the Section for Marine Diversity and Experimental Ecology that has a main focus on marine nutrients, diversity and habitats as well as ecotoxicology and environmental chemistry. The section is widely involved in monitoring and advisory work for the Ministry of Environment and Food.

The activities take place at a national and international level with main activities in Denmark, Northern Europa and maybe the Arctic.

  Working place

The place of employment is Aarhus University, Department of Bioscience, and the working place is Frederiksborgvej 399, DK-4000 Roskilde, Denmark.

  Further information

Further information may be obtained from Head of section Karsten Dahl, phone: +4587158566, e-mail: kda@bios.au.dk

There is funding for 1 years of employment. In case further external funding is procured within the academic area the candidate is estimated qualified for, an extension can be possible for up to a maximum of 4 years employment.

  Application procedure

Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him/her self. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants, including the main considerations emphasized during the selection process.

  Formalities and salary range

Science and Technology refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Guidelines for applicants can be found here.

Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Further information on qualification requirements and job content may be found in the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff at Danish Universities.

Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.

All interested candidates are encouraged to apply, regardless of their personal background. Research activities will be evaluated in relation to actual research time. Thus, we encourage applicants to specify periods of leave without research activities, in order to be able to subtract these periods from the span of the scientific career during the evaluation of scientific productivity.
