  Job Description

The Department of Ophthalmology at the Bascom-Palmer Eye Institute, University of Miami Miller School of Medicine is searching for two highly-motivated Postdoctoral Associates with strong research experience in molecular/cellular biology and animal research for biological drug discovery and development. These positions are part of NIH-funded projects to develop novel drug therapies at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. Bascom Palmer Eye Institute has been ranked as the #1 eye hospital in the past 15 consecutive years (2004 -2018) by U.S. News and World Report.

Research will focus on developing next-generation targeted anti-angiogenic therapies for various vascular diseases. The laboratory recently developed the only technology of ligandomics with broad applicability to discover high-quality drug targets for novel therapies of different diseases, including but not limited to angiogenic diseases (PMID: 29326083). Using this powerful technology, we discovered highly promising drug targets and are developing targeted anti-angiogenic therapies for various ocular vascular diseases (PMID: 28330905). This project will investigate drug candidates in various stages. These include characterization of humanized antibodies to treat angiogenic diseases in animal models, analysis of novel drug targets in vitro and in vivo, and ligandomics screening to discover additional unknown drug targets. The research activities include ligandomics analysis, molecular and cellular studies, protein analyses, antibody characterizations, receptor identification and characterization, therapies to treat vascular leakage and pathological neovascularization in animal models, preclinical toxicology and pharmacokinetics studies.

  Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have a Ph.D. and/or MD, have productive scientific contributions through publication of high impact peer-reviewed papers, and show strong commitment to science. Applicants with advanced skills in molecular biology, cell biology, protein biochemistry, immunohistochemistry and animal research are highly desired. Experience in bioinformatics analysis is a plus. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. This position represents an excellent opportunity for career development in disease mechanism research and drug target discovery.

If interested, please complete an online application and send a CV, 1-2 page summary/Cover letter describing past accomplishments and 3 references, including contact information to Dr. Wei Li at w.li@med.miami.edu. Salary is based on NIH recommendation. Positions are available immediately.
