  Job Description

  The Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine has an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Associate. This position will develop and use optoelectronic imaging instrumentation for ophthalmic applications and perform imaging studies involving human subjects, animal models, and/or human tissue specimen. The Postdoctoral Associate will work closely with research personnel and physicians and will have opportunities to interface with industry partners.The duties and responsibilities for this position may include, but are not limited to:Innovating and developing novel optoelectronic imaging systems, including both hardware and software, for applications in ophthalmology including diagnostics, image guided surgery, and ocular biometry.Designing and developing novel imaging-based systems to extract spatially resolved information of the ocular structures (e.g.; systems based on spectral-domain and swept-source Optical Coherence Tomography imaging).Designing and developing optical systems to measure the optical aberrations of the eye (e.g.; systems based on Laser Ray-Tracing and Shack-Hartman wavefront sensing).Developing system software and algorithms, hardware control, and data acquisition software, user interfaces, and software for data storage and communication.Maintaining appropriate documentation and drafting research reports to the Principal Investigators.Purchasing laboratory and clinical equipment and items.Attending laboratory meetings and participating, as necessary, in clinical meetings within the Department of Ophthalmology.Continuing to develop professionally (e.g.; attending conferences, publishing research results, keeping up-to-date on latest advances in the field).Ensuring compliance with health and safety standards in all aspects of work.

  The minimum qualifications for this position are as follows: Ph.D or other doctoral-level degree in electrical, biomedical engineering, or a closely related field of study. Good communication skills, both verbal and written, with proficiency in the English language. Prefer familiarity with optics, electronics, image acquisition, and image processing. Strong technical and problem-solving skills with the ability to successfully work independently as well as on a team. Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data. Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
