  Postdoctoral position In Cancer Biology

  ·         University of Alberta

  ·         Location: Edmonton, Canada

  ·         Job Number: 7056433

  ·         Posting Date: Mar 12, 2019

  ·         Application Deadline: Open Until Filled

  Job Description

Available immediately for highly motivated recently graduated Ph.D. with strong training in biochemistry, molecular and cell biology, or cancer biology to participate in the following projects involving multidisciplinary teams of investigators: a) animal cancer models to study the response to drugs targeting the DNA damage response (DDR) and/or radiation, b) live cell imaging and high resolution microscopy to study the DDR, c) protein interaction studies to dissect signaling pathways.

For all projects a background in DNA repair and signaling, chromatin, stem cells or signal transduction are desirable, but not essential. Depending on the project, additional familiarity with patient-derived xenografts, electron microscopy, or proteomic screens are a plus.

The Gamper lab focuses on studying the DNA damage response and the potential to target it for therapeutic purposes, particularly to improve cancer treatment. Techniques in the lab include novel biochemical tools to dissect signaling pathways, cutting edge microscopy (high throughput and high resolution), and mouse models (including small animal image-guided radiation therapy). See amgamper.weebly.com.

Strong publication record and training to perform independent research are required for further consideration. We highly value and encourage applications from minority groups.

Successful candidates will be part of a stimulating and collaborative scientific environment with cutting-edge instrumentation and facilities. The lab is situated in the Cross Cancer Institute and has a close relationship with clinicians, facilitating translational research. Applicants should send CV and names and addresses of three references to gamper@ualberta.ca.

The University of Alberta is ranked among the top 4 universities in Canada. Edmonton, the capital of Alberta and home to the university, is vibrant and multicultural with a population over a million. Situated near the Rocky Mountains and several national parks, Edmonton offers great quality of life and outstanding recreational activities.
