  Job Description

To promote a flexible workforce, the University will consider applications from individuals seeking full time, part time, job share, or term time only working arrangements.

We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on an international multidisciplinary project funded by the NERC-Newton Fund Latin American Biodiversity Programme Phase II: Biodiversity – ecosystem services for sustainable development.

The successful candidate will join a team of UK and Latin American researchers to better understand the structure, function and resilience of Chilean and Peruvian kelp forests (dominated byLessonia trabeculata), which are commercially exploited, in order to develop sustainable ecosystem-based management approaches for this fishery. Given the focus of the research the PDRA will spend a significant amount of time based at the Estación Costera de Investigaciones Marinas (ECIM), which is the marine research and teaching laboratory of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (http://ecim.bio.puc.cl/en/) located in Las Cruces, Chile.

The position will involve significant subtidal fieldwork in remote areas along the coastline of Chile and Peru. The successful candidate will therefore need to be a committed, highly motivated individual who holds a PhD in Marine Ecology/Biology, has significant demonstrable experience in undertaking subtidal fieldwork as well as an interest in kelp forest ecology and ecosystem-based fisheries management.

To make an informal enquiry, please contact Dr Pippa Moore at pim2@aber.ac.uk.
