  Job Description

Dr. Joanna Yi’s laboratory at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM)/Texas Children’s Hospital is seeking a talented post-doctoral associate to work on developing targeted drugs for pediatric cancers in collaboration with BCM’s Center for Drug Discovery (CDD).  The Yi lab seeks to identify relevant, lynchpin targets in pediatric cancers through a multidisciplinary approach including chemical biology, cell and molecular biology, and assay development. The initial targets will be further characterized to understand their effect in in vitro and in vivo models of those diseases. Concurrently, we want to generate biomarker assays of activity that potentially could be used in clinical trials. We have unique access to screen our targets with the CDD’s drug libraries, including the massive DNA-encoded chemical library and the robotics available to design and run high-throughput screens.

Post-doc will work on translational drug discovery for pediatric cancers, including assay development, chemical biology, cell & molecular biology, in collaboration with BCM's Center for Drug Discovery.  Expected work will include use of flow cytometry, apoptosis assays, qPCR, immunoblotting/immunochemistry, kinase and phosphatase assays, cell cycle analysis, biochemical and cell-based assay development (including use of drug and liquid handling devices), and handling primary patient samples. The successful applicant should be highly motivated and ambitious, eager to take ownership of projects and drive them through completion, including thinking about what additional experiments/collaborations are required for publication. This also includes eventually seeking out his/her own funding and/or next career steps.

Required: PhD in genetics, cancer biology, molecular biology, or chemical biology.

Required:   Hands-on laboratory experience in genetics, cancer biology, or chemical biology, and/or a related field and a track record of quality publications and/or patents in these areas: chromatin immunoprecipitation, assay development (cell-free and cell-based assays), compound management and drug combination experience,  analysis of sequencing/expression data, and  recombinant protein production in bacterial and/or mammalian expression systems.

  ·         The successful applicant should be highly motivated and ambitious, eager to take ownership of projects and drive them through completion, including thinking about what additional experiments/collaborations are required for publication. This also includes eventually seeking out his/her own funding and/or next career steps.

  ·         Must have a strong record of academic and/or industrial distinction and productivity, and be highly motivated and independently functioning.

  ·         Excellent interpersonal skills and works well in a team environment, collaborating and communication well with those within and outside the lab
