  Job Description

The Laboratory of Dr. Joseph Hyser of The Alkek Center for Metagenomics and Microbiome Research at the Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX is seeking a highly motivated and creative postdoctoral researcher. The Hyser Lab studies the exploitation of signal transduction pathways by pathogens and commensal bacterial. Our focus is primarily on the GI tract and use live microscopy of cell lines, organoids and in vivo models expressing fluorescent biosensors to examine signaling mediated by signaling molecules and secondary messengers such as calcium, cAMP/cGMP, ROS, and NO. We are ultimately interested in dissecting pathways of communication that underlie the disease manifestations of pathogens and health-promoting aspects of commensals and probiotics. Candidates should hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in microbiology, GI cell biology, molecular biology, or related field and have published in a peer-reviewed journal(s). Prior experience with 3D organoid cultures, calcium imaging, and using the mouse as a model system is recommended.

Required:  PhD degree in microbiology, cell biology, molecular biology, or related fields.

  Preferred:

  ·         Research experience and/or demonstrated interest in host-microbial interactions.

  ·         Experience in 3D organoids or enteroids.

  ·         Experience in calcium signaling pathways and calcium imaging.

  ·         Experience in mouse models and intravital microscopy.
