  Job Description

Applications are invited for two Postdoctoral Researcher positions in Synthetic Biology at the University of California, Davis (https://tanlab.bme.ucdavis.edu). Successful candidates will join the Tan Lab and work in exciting bottom-up biology research that combines synthetic biology approaches, quantitative imaging, and soft materials. The positions are fully funded for three years. The research involves interdisciplinary collaborations with experts in soft materials (Prof. Atul Parikh) and microfluidics (Prof. Tingrui Pan).

The research is a continuation of our work that is published in Nature Nanotechnology (http://www.nature.com/nnano/journal/v8/n8/full/nnano.2013.132.html ) and Nature Chemical Biology (https://www.nature.com/articles/nchembio.2514 ). The research will have a broad impact on bio-sensing and drug discovery.

We are looking for exceptional candidates who have a Ph.D. or is in the final stage of obtaining a Ph.D., in bioengineering, biomedical engineering, molecular biology, chemical engineering or related fields. Essential skills include the followings: molecular cloning (bacteria and yeast), microscopy, cell-free reactions, and protein purification. Preference will be given to candidates who have added experience in either liposomes, biofilms, or cancer signaling pathways. Excellent writing and communication skills in English are required. The candidate should be highly motivated, creative, and excited by interdisciplinary research to address important, fundamental questions in biology and biological engineering.

Interested candidates should submit a cover letter stating the applicant’s interests in our research, a CV, and the contact information of three references to Prof. Tan (cmtan@ucdavis.edu ).
