  Postdoctoral Researcher

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Researcher to join the Laboratory of Dr Laila Moubayidin at the John Innes Centre based in Norwich, UK.

  The role:

The successful applicant will study the molecular and cellular mechanism(s) controlling symmetry establishment during plant organogenesis, using roots and gynoecia as model organs (Moubayidin and Østergaard 2014, Curr Biol 24, 2743-8; Moubayidin and Østergaard 2017, Curr Opin Genet Dev 45, 15-21). The main focus of the post is to investigate unprecedented roles for cell-cycle regulators and their cross-talk with hormone dynamics. The post holder will plan and conduct a wide range of lab techniques, including genetics, biochemical and molecular experiments, as well as microscopy analysis. They will use Arabidopsis thaliana as a model system, and other plant models where appropriate.

The role will also involve delivering presentations within the institute and at national and international conferences, assisting less-experienced group members, acting as a role model and promoting a collaborative working environment. Therefore, it is expected that the post holder will interpret data with a mature degree of independence, and be an excellent communicator and team player.

  The ideal candidate:

Candidates should possess a PhD in Genetics and Molecular Biology, Plant Biology, or related discipline. Advanced knowledge and proficiency in plant development and molecular biology methods are essential, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Previous research in biochemistry and experience in working with plant models other than Arabidopsis (bryophytes, lycophytes, crops) is desirable.

  Additional information:

Salary on appointment will be within the range £31,250 to £38,100 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. This is a fulltime post for a period of 3 years, available from April 2019.
