摘要:美国科罗拉多大学医学院病毒学方向博士后职位招聘Postdoctoral positions in virology, structural biology and biochemistry

Postdoctoral positions in virology, structural biology and biochemistry

Three postdoctoral positions in virology, structural biology and biochemistry are available immediately to join the dynamic research group of Dr. Kvaratskhelia at Division of Infectious Diseases, University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine.

Virology research will entail elucidation of biological roles of previously undescribed cellular binding partners of HIV-1 proteins recently identified in our laboratory. Furthermore, we are developing novel inhibitors of HIV-1 integrase with new antiviral mechanism of action for their potential clinical use. Our laboratory has state-of-the-art BSL-2 and -3 facilities, which are fully equipped to carry out cutting-edge virology studies.  In addition, we have access to a wide variety of research core facilities located within University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. A postdoctoral researcher will have extensive and complementary interactions with biochemists and structural biologists in Dr. Kvaratskhelia’s group. Furthermore, Division of Infectious Diseases provides highly collaborative environment, which will allow a new postdoctoral fellow to integrate in a wider community of virologist and clinicians. The lead candidate is expected to have previous experience in virology. Additional training with retroviral assays will be provided.

Structural biology and biochemistry research will entail characterization of protein-drug, protein-nucleic acid and protein-protein interactions in HIV-1 using X-ray crystallography, cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) and an array of biochemical assays (Passos et al, 2017, Science; Kessl at al., 2016, Cell; Sharma et al, 2014, PLoS Pathog., Sharma et al, 2013, PNAS). Dr. Kvaratskhelia’s laboratory is fully equipped for large-scale preparation of highly purified proteins and has all necessary instrumentation to carry out cutting-edge biochemical and biophysical studies. In addition, we have direct access to X-ray crystallography and cryo-EM facilities located in the immediately adjacent building. The X-ray crystallography facility is fully equipped for biomolecular crystallization, crystal screening, data collection, data processing, structure-determination and model building. The cryo-EM facility has a state-of-the-art 200kV FEI Talos Arctica transmission electron microscope (TEM) and dedicated software for automated cryo-EM data collection. The EM facility is run by a full-time manager, ensuring smooth and consistent operation, as well as training of new users on basic aspects of cryo-EM data collection. Ideally, candidates should have previous experience in structural biology (X-ray crystallography or other relevant techniques) and/or biochemical studies. Cryo-EM experiments will be conducted in collaboration with the group of Prof. Francisco Asturias, a leading expert in cryo-EM whose research is focused on EM characterization of macromolecular complexes and interactions. This will provide a great opportunity to receive training in cryo-EM, a powerful and rapidly expanding technology. In addition, successful candidates will have the opportunity to interact with virologists in Dr. Kvaratskhelia’s laboratory to validate the biological significance of biochemical and structural findings.

The research projects are expected to generate high impact publications and provide a postdoctoral fellow with an excellent opportunity for further career development in academia or pharmaceutical companies. Our lab is located on the 11th floor of Research Complex II and has unimpeded, spectacular views of the Rocky Mountains. Denver is a highly desirable place for postdoctoral experience with ample activities all year around.
