　　Subject area description

　　Adipose tissue plays a key role in the development of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. White adipose tissue can, under certain conditions, acquire brown-like features. We are investigating the mechanisms by which white adipocytes can convert into brown-like fat cells, and how different adipose tissue phenotypes impact metabolic diseases.

　　Job assignments

　　As a post-doctoral fellow, the work will take place mainly at the Lundberg Laboratory for Diabetes Research at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg, but also part time at AstraZeneca Gothenburg, when required. The primary focus of the project will be to investigate mechanisms of white to brown adipocyte transdifferentiation, and characterize the consequence of adipose tissue phenotype modulation on liver, skeletal muscle, pancreas, and whole body metabolism, via a combination of in vitro and in vivo experiments. The candidate will be responsible for designing and performing experiments, analyzing and interpreting data, communicating results internally and externally at meetings and conferences, and publishing results in scientific journals.

　　Eligibility

　　To qualify as a postdoctoral researcher the applicant should hold a PhD in a relevant subject. Since postdoctoral constitutes a qualifying appointment for junior researchers, we aim to target those who have a doctoral degree not older than 3 years from the application deadline.

　　Assessment

　　Applicants should have an excellent understanding of human physiology, metabolism and diabetes. The applicant should have expertise in the field of white and brown adipose tissue biology, browning of white fat, both in vitro and in vivo. Experience with the following experimental techniques is a requirement: RNA and protein isolation, qRT-PCR, Western blot, mass spectrometry and microscopy. Furthermore, the applicant must have experience with omics data and systems biology. Further merits are experience with working in interdisciplinary research groups, publication of articles in international scientific journals, strong self-motivation, good interpersonal skills, and fluency in writing and speaking English. The applicant´s personal suitability is highly important.
