Two Postdoctoral positions in MS-based proteomics

Two fully funded postdoctoral fellow positions for two years are available in the Proteomics Technology Development & Application group at The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research (CPR – www.cpr.ku.dk).

The Center has been established at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, to promote basic and applied discovery research on human proteins of medical relevance. The Center comprises a wide range of expertise and resources including proteomics, protein production and characterization to disease mechanisms. The Proteomics Technology Development & Application group is led by Professor Dr. Michael L. Nielsen.

The Nielsen group focuses on developing novel proteomics methods & technologies for detailing cellular outcomes in a systems-level approach, with the aim to improve current understanding of cellular phenotypes and diseases. To this end, we employ cutting-edge mass spectrometry (MS)-based technologies and the Nielsen group has developed several novel proteomics methododologies for identification and quantification of various post-translational modifications (PTMs), including ADP-ribosylation (Larsen et al, Cell Reports, 2018; Martello et al, Nature Communications, 2016; Jungmichel et al, Mol Cell. and SUMOylation); (Hendriks et al, Nature Communications, 2018; Hendriks et al, Nature Structural & Molecular Biology, 2017).

  Project Description

The entailed projects will focus on applying proteomic methodologies developed in the Nielsen group for systems-wide investigations of the cellular consequences and biological processes related to ADP-ribosylation and/or SUMOylation in health and disease, and the enzymatic machinery responsible for the dynamic regulation of the modifications. Projects may include studying the modifications in cancer cell lines, tissue samples from model systems, or patient material to gain novel insights into the molecular mechanism surrounding ADP-ribosylation and/or SUMOylation. The ideal candidate is expected to use cutting-edge proteomic technologies to address challenging biological questions in a systems-wide manner, and we expect that the selected candidates and associated projects will make a strong scientific impact. Thus, we are looking for candidates with an excellent publication record that will thrive in a supportive and multi-disciplinary environment.

  Estimated start date: Early 2019.

  Qualifications

o    The candidate is required to have PhD or equivalent degree in natural or medical science.

o    Excellent scientific track record, including at least one publication as first author in a high quality, peer reviewed international journal.

o    Prior experience with research areas involving ADP-ribosylation or SUMOylation would be considered a distinct advantage.

o    Prior experience in proteomics technology development and/or high resolution mass spectrometry is not essential, but would be considered an advantage.

o    The candidate should be able to conduct independent and creative research, demonstrate scientific productivity, and show good inter-personal and communication skills.

o    Good communication skills, both oral and written.

o    An analytical aptitude for devising innovative scientific or technical solutions.

o    Demonstrate enthusiasm, motivation, flexibility and confidence.

  Place of employment and work

The employment is at CPR (www.cpr.ku.dk), University of Copenhagen, located in central Copenhagen. The research environment at CPR is vibrant, ambitious, and international, with approx. 30 different nationalities currently represented. The Center comprises modern laboratories and state-of-the-art facilities within protein science. Seminars with high-profile international speakers and regular internal research seminars are organized at CPR.

  Terms of salary and employment

Salary, pension and terms of employment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Academics Central organization. Currently, the monthly salary starts at 33,600 DKK/approx. 4,480 EUR plus 17.1 % in pension contribution.

  Contact

For further information about the position, please contact CPR by e-mail: jobs@cpr.ku.dk.

  Application

Your application should be submitted electronically by clicking ‘APPLY NOW’ below and your application should include the following documents:

  1. Motivated letter of application, including an outline for research projects of interest.

  2. Curriculum vitae, incl. education and experience.

  3. List of publications.

  4. Letters of recommendation.

  5. Names and contact details for two referees.

  Application deadline: 20 November 2018.

  The further process

After the expiry of the deadline for applications, the authorized recruitment manager selects applicants for assessment on the advice of the Appointments Committee. All applicants are then immediately notified whether their application has been passed for assessment by an expert assessment committee. Selected applicants are notified of the composition of the committee and each applicant has the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that relates to the applicant him/herself.

You can read about the recruitment process at http://employment.ku.dk/faculty/recruitment-process/.

The applicant will be assessed according to the Ministerial Order no. 242 of 13 March 2012 on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities.

CPR and University of Copenhagen wish to reflect the diversity of society and welcome applications from all qualified candidates regardless of personal background.

Part of the International Alliance of Research Universities (IARU), and among Europe’s top-ranking universities, the University of Copenhagen promotes research and teaching of the highest international standard. Rich in tradition and modern in outlook, the University gives students and staff the opportunity to cultivate their talent in an ambitious and informal environment. An effective organisation – with good working conditions and a collaborative work culture – creates the ideal framework for a successful academic career.
