The focus of the lab is on the role of mitochondria and metabolism in aging (see Finkel, T, Nat Med, 2015 and Sun et al., Mol Cell, 2016). Ongoing projects include genetic and physiological dissection of mitochondrial calcium (see Pan et al., NCB, 2013; Liu et al., Cell Reports, 2016), regulation of mitophagy (see Sun et al., Mol Cell, 2015; Sun et al., Nat Protoc., 2017) and vascular autophagy/aging (see Torisu et al., Nat Med, 2013). To apply to this position please submit your CV, a cover letter detailing your research experience, and contact details of three references to finkelt@pitt.edu

Qualifications: A PhD, MD, or MD/PhD required. The successful candidate(s) will have excellent written and verbal English communication skills. Experience with mouse models, animal physiology or CRISPR-based screens is desirable. Eligibility to apply for NIH Training Grants would also be a distinct advantage.

  CHEN LAB:

Several postdoctoral positions are available in the laboratory of Dr. Bill Chen, Director of the Small Molecule Therapeutic Center, University of Pittsburgh, Department of Medicine. The lab focuses on identifying and studying molecular pathways that modulate the inflammatory cascade (1), mitochondria function/mitophagy (2), and DAMPs/inflammasome/necroptosis (3) in order to develop novel small molecule therapeutics for various diseases. To apply to this position please submit your CV, a cover letter detailing your research experience, and contact details of three references to chenb@upmc.edu

Qualifications: A PhD, MD, or MD/PhD required. The successful candidate(s) will have excellent written and verbal English communication skills. Experience with ubiquitin biology, mouse models, or CRISPR-based screens is desirable. Eligibility to apply for NIH Training Grants would also be a distinct advantage.

  EISELE LAB:

Exciting postdoctoral training opportunity available to study the molecular mechanism of Alzheimer’s disease in the laboratory of Dr. Yvonne Eisele. The focus of the lab is to delineate structure-toxicity-relationships in amyloid disorders like Alzheimer’s disease and transthyretin-related amyloidosis using state-of-the-art biochemical methods, molecular and cell biology, -omics, and animal models (Eisele et al., 2015, Nat Rev Drug Discov; Eisele and Duyckaerts, 2016, Acta Neuropathol). To apply for this position please submit your CV, a cover letter detailing your research experience and motivation, and contact information of three references to eiseley@pitt.edu.

Qualifications: A PhD, MD, or MD/PhD is required. The successful candidate will have excellent written and verbal English communication skills, a strong background in biomedical sciences, be highly self-motivated, a strong team player and has documented success in research including publications in international peer-reviewed journals on relevant topics.

  GURKAR LAB:

A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Aditi Gurkar. The focus of the lab is on characterizing how DNA damage reprograms metabolism and stress responses to drive aging and age-related diseases including cardiovascular disease and neurodegeneration. Ongoing projects in the lab involve dissecting the role of DNA repair in post-mitotic cells and tissue and require expertise in C. elegans, induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS) or mice To apply to this position please submit your CV, a cover letter detailing your research experience, and contact details of three references to agurkar1@pitt.edu.

Qualifications: A PhD or MD/PhD required. The successful candidate(s) will have excellent written and verbal English communication skills, along with experience in either C. elegans or primary cell culture, molecular and biochemical assays, and studies involving small animals. Eligibility to apply for NIH Training Grants would also be a distinct advantage.

  MORA LAB:

A NIH-funded postdoctoral position is available in the field of lung biology and mitochondria, with Dr. Ana Mora. The information for the project involved can be found with the following references: Bueno et al, J. Clin Invest.,2015. 125(2):521-38. PMID: 25562319, Bueno et al Aging Cell, 2018, 17(2).PMID 2936323258, Zank et al, Frontiers in Medicine, 2018, Feb5:5:10. PMID 29459894). Research in the Mora lab is focused at the understanding of the pathogenesis of idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF). Because aging is a major risk factor for IPF, we study the role of mitochondria dysfunction and altered proteostasis in the activation of pro-fibrotic responses in the lung epithelial cell. Our studies have found that mitochondrial quality control plays a critical role in the genesis of aging related susceptibility to lung fibrosis. Our research is aimed to identify novel diagnostic and therapeutic mitochondrial targets to control lung fibrosis. Please send curriculum vitae, a brief summary of research experience and interest, and names of three references by email to anamora@pitt.edu

Qualifications: Applicants should have experience in basic cellular and molecular biology. Experience in animal models and/or mitochondria biology is a plus. The position requires a Ph.D. or MD in biomedical biosciences or related fields and less than two years of postdoctoral experience.

The lab is also interested in engineering the nature designed bacterial toxins, in particular the anthrax toxin protein delivery system, for tumor targeted therapy. To apply to this position please submit your CV, a cover letter detailing your research experience, and contact details of three references to shl176@pitt.edu

Qualifications: A PhD, MD, or MD/PhD required. The successful candidate(s) will have excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
