　　Position Description

　　We invite you to apply for a Post Doctoral Appointee position with our Applied Materials Division (AMD).

　　In this role you will:

　　Conduct independent research in advanced materials characterization at the Advanced Photon Source, particularly at the 1-ID beam line using high-energy diffraction microscopy (HEDM) and tomography techniques.

　　Perform collaborative research with internal and external scientists, including planning, designing, and executing beam line experiments.

　　Develop novel concepts and algorithms for data collection, reduction, and analysis.

　　Periodically, conduct microstructural and mechanical characterizations on the materials being investigated.

　　Report relevant results in an appropriate form, with an emphasis on scientific journals.

　　Position Requirements

　　We expect you to have:

　　A recent (0-2 years) Ph.D. Degree in Materials Science or PhysicsDirect experience with advanced characterization techniques (synchrotron x-rays, XRD, SEM, TEM, EDAX, fracture/fatigue properties).

　　Experience with scattering and imaging techniques.

　　Programming experience with Matlab, Python, and data visualization software.

　　Good skills and organization in data processing, evaluation, and interpretation.

　　Ability to present reports at meetings or conferences and prepare manuscripts for publication.

　　Excellent oral and written communication skills.

　　Proven ability to be an excellent team player.

　　A high commitment to safety.

　　Additional desirable experience:

　　Prior experience in working at a synchrotron source.

　　Prior experience in metal and alloy systems.

　　To be eligible, candidates must have completed their Ph.D. within the last 3 years.
