  Job Description

  General Summary of Position:

  The successful applicant will conduct fundamental research and development in the areas of high performance computing with an emphasis on efficient data encoding for various scientific simulation and analysis frameworks and help immediate supervisor in writing scholarly articles and proposals.

  The initial appointment will be for 1 year with a possibility of renewal based on productivity and performance and the availability of funding.

  Essential Job Duties include:

  Conduct research and development on high-performance computing (HPC) systems under the supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI)

  Assist supervisor in writing scholarly articles and proposals for grant funding

  Undertake activities to develop independent research

  Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  PhD in computer science or computer engineering, or similar field by the time of the appointment

  At least two years of experience in system or application software development in C or C++

  Knowledge of modern data analytics tools and methods on various large-scale data sets

  Strong programming skills in C, C++, script language (Python)

  Ability to work as a team player

  Strong technical report writing and communication skills

  Quantitative and qualitative research methods

  Additional Considerations:

  A record of publication

  Experience with collaborative interdisciplinary research

  Ability to work independently, with limited direction, as well as within a team environment

  Ability to mentor and inspire students with limited research experience

  Special Instructions to Applicants:
