Starting at the earliest date possible/01.09.2018 and preliminarily limited to a fixed contract until 31.08.2021, the West German Genome Center (WGGC) hosted by the Institute for Human Genetics and the PRECISE Platform for Single Cell Genomics and Epigenomics at the Life and Medical Sciences Institute is seeking a

Bioinformatician (100%, TVL13)

The West German Genome Center (WGGC) is one of four Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) Competence Centers (NGS-CCs) funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). The WGGCs main NGS sites are at the University of Bonn, University of Cologne and the University of Düsseldorf. The WGGC has been founded to develop and provide NGS services for the academic community throughout Germany. The position will be located primarily at the Life and Medical Sciences Institute, Carl-Troll-Str. 31.

Your responsibilities:

• supporting the management board of the WGGC in harmonizing NGS pipelines at the different WGGCcenters
• Further developing NGS pre-processing pipelines at the WGGC site in Bonn
• Adapting existing NGS pipelines to new HPC infrastructure at the WGGC 
• Optimizing NGS pipelines for memory-driven computing
• Developing and implementing single cell RNA-sequencing pipelines

Your qualifications:

• University degree (PhD) in Bioinformatics, or a similar subject
• Strong background in computational biology, bioinformatics, biomathematics, bio-statistics is of advantage
• Knowledge and experience in the analysis of Next-Generation Sequencing data e.g. RNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq and ATAC-Seq
• strong background in biology, preferable immunology
• experience in High-performance computing
• computer programming skills
• native speaker or near-native command of the English language
• motivated, flexible, team oriented and interested in continued professional devel-opment.
