摘要:

Postdoctoral Research Scientist in STRUBI : Oxford, United Kingdom

Salary: Grade 7: £31,604 - £38,833 with a discretionary range to £42,418 p.a.

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in STRUBI in the Division of Structural Biology based at the Wellcome Centre for Human Genetics.

You will be responsible for carrying out research as part of a collaborative project involving the Grünewald and Turberfield research groups. This project aims to develop nanostructure tags to identify specific molecules by electron cryotomography, a rapidly developing cell biological method to build three-dimensional reconstructions of cells and viruses at unprecedented levels of detail.

You will work closely with other postdoctoral researchers in the Grünewald lab to produce genetically modified Herpes Simplex Virus 1 (HSV-1) and recombinant HSV-1 glycoproteins. These samples will then be used for screening nanostructure tags, before being subjected to electron cryomicroscopy (cryoEM) and cryotomography (cryoET) for structure determination. The design and optimisation of these nanostructures and their binding partners will be done in collaboration with the Turberfield lab.

You will have a PhD in virology, biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology or structural biology. You will have significant experience with mammalian cell culture and transfection, and with virus production in mammalian cells and relevant experience with molecular cloning and recombinant protein expression, including CRISPR/Cas9 and bacterial artificial chromosome systems. You will have an Interest in structural cell biology of virus-host interactions. You will have excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team as well as independently. You will have the ability to deliver results to required standard and schedule and to organise and prioritise own work with minimal supervision.

The position is fixed-term for 2 years in the first instance and funded by the Medical Research Council.

Please quote ref. 135507 on all correspondence. You will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement as part of your online application.

Only applications received before 12.00 midday on Monday 20 August 2018 can be considered.
