A postdoctoral position is available in NREL’s Chemistry and Nanoscience Center. The focus of this role is to pursue research in photoinduced electron transfer processes in organic, molecular systems. This position will focus on using transient spectroscopies to investigate charge carrier generation in sensitized conjugated molecular and polymer films. The candidate will be responsible for the preparation and characterization of the thin-film samples, as well as investigating the photophysical properties using a variety of transient spectroscopies. An acceptable candidate should understand laser-based spectroscopies that range from femtoseconds to nanoseconds in time resolution.

Specific areas of interest include, but are not limited to:

• Time-resolved microwave conductivity
• Femtosecond and nanosecond transient absorption spectroscopy
• Time-resolved and steady-state photoluminescence spectroscopy
• Transient x-ray spectroscopy
• Preparation and characterization of thin-film samples

Candidates should have:

• A demonstrated track record of success in addressing fundamental science questions
• The skills to devise solutions to challenging problems
• A Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry, Physics, or a related field of science
• A record of publications/presentations in areas relevant to the NREL project
• Experience with lasers and optical spectrometers
• Experience with the treatment and analysis of spectroscopic data

Required Education, Experience, and Skills

Must be a recent PhD graduate within the last three years.

PhD in Physical Chemistry or Molecular Physics, or related scientific field

Computer programming skills
