Contract Type: Fixed term for 36 months, with an anticipated start date of 1 September 2018

The Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering invites applications for a Research Associate (Electrical Machines) to work on the EPSRC sponsored ‘ZECCY: A Zero-Emission Closed-loop linear-Joule CYcle engine generator’ research project.

The aims of the project includes the development, design, analysis and testing of novel linear machines. An essentially multi-physics approach will be adopted and an optimised design, taking into consideration electromagnetic, thermal and mechanical aspects, will be developed. The project is funded by EPSRC and the post provides an ideal opportunity to undertake high quality fundamental research and development, and the successful candidate will be encouraged and supported to attend international conferences and publish articles in learned society journals.

Applicants should have a postgraduate degree or equivalent experience in electrical engineering. A strong scientific background in electrical engineering, in particular electrical machines/electromagnetic devices is essential. You should also have knowledge of the principles of mechanical engineering, in particular stress analysis.
