Postdoctoral Assistant in Scientific Computing

University of Oxford - Oxford e-Research Centre, Department of Engineering Science

Grade 7: £31,604 - £38,833 p.a.

We are seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Scientific Computing to join AstroAccelerate project at the Department of Engineering Science Oxford e-Research Centre. The post is funded by STFC and ERC and is fixed-term to 31 March 2019.

The postholder will be a member of the scientific computing group based at the Oxford e-Research Centre. They will work on the AstroAccelerate project that focuses on developing GPU accelerated software for processing time-domain radio astronomy data in real-time. Their primary responsibility will be to manage our existing C++ library, incorporate new code (written in c and CUDA) into it and upgrade some existing code to C++ according to agreed coding standards. They would also be responsible for maintaining documentation and web presentation of the project. The postholder will be responsible for communication regarding the libraries development within the group and with external contributors.

You should hold a PhD/DPhil or be near completion in physics/mathematics/computer science or a related subject together with relevant experience. Possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to work within established research programmes and excellent communication skills, including the ability to write for publication, present research proposals and results, and represent the research group at meetings. Whilst the role is a Grade 7  position, we would be willing to consider candidates with potential but less experience who are seeking a development opportunity (candidates holding a relevant degree/Masters and working on PhD/DPhil), for which an initial appointment would be at Grade 6 (£28,098 - £33,518 p.a.) with the responsibilities adjusted accordingly.
