Several post-doc positions are available in the lab of Professor Eugenia Piddini to study the mechanism and impact of cell competition in tissue homeostasis and in cancer. The aim of the Piddini group is to identify strategies that exploit cell competition to develop novel therapeutic approaches in cancer and in regenerative medicine. Towards that goal our group investigates the mechanism of action of cell competition and its contribution to various pathological conditions.

Our lab uses a variety of approaches, model systems and technologies including: cell and molecular biology, gene editing and genome wide genetic screening, live imaging, human primary cells (particularly skin and airway epithelial cells) human iPS and stem cells and tumour-derived cell lines. We combine work in vitro with studies of cell competition and clonal evolution in vivo, using Drosophila and mouse in vivo models of tumorigenesis. We are also extending this work to the study of models of human diseases using primary cells.

A number of projects are available to study the mechanisms of cell competition by genome-wide screening both in mammalian systems and in Drosophila and to investigate the pathophysiology of cell competition using human disease models (mouse in vivo models and human in vitro models).

We are looking to recruit talented and highly motivated individuals with expertise in cell and/or developmental biology, in molecular biology, signal transduction and imaging. Experience in one or more of the following is also required: in vivo mouse work (skin or airway epithelia), mouse intravital imaging, experience with the generation of IPS cells from primary cells to establish disease models, CRISPR/Cas9 mutagenesis and knock-ins, culture of primary epithelial cells/organoids (preferably skin, liver or airway), Drosophila genetics and in vivo work, quantitative cell biology and image analysis, experience with preparation of libraries for deep sequencing and with analysis of deep sequencing data.

Applicants should be highly motivated and have a substantial track record of productivity and international experience. They should have a PhD in a relevant subject area or be close to completion of their degree.

Applications should include a CV and a brief statement outlining key areas of expertise and reasons why you would like to join our group. Informal enquiries can be addressed to Professor Eugenia Piddini: eugenia.piddini@bristol.ac.uk. The funds for these posts are available for 2 years in the first instance.

  £32,548 – £36,613 (Grade I) or £36,613 – £41,212 (Grade J) (depending on skills and experience)

The call for positions will be open until positions are filled with shortlisting starting from 20th of June.

The University is committed to creating and sustaining a fully inclusive culture. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and communities.
