Job Description
Immunocytes accumulation and activation in adipose tissue are hallmarks of obesity-induced adipose inflammation and are associated with many killer diseases (Deng T* et al., Annual Review of Pathology: Mechanisms of Disease, 2016). Our recent work uncovered a crosstalk between adipocytes and adipose tissue T cells in the initiation of obesity-induced inflammation, indicating that the interaction of adipocytes and immunocytes through complex of signaling networks is essential for obesity-induced inflammation (Deng T et al., Cell Metabolism, 2013; Deng T* et al., Nature Communications, 2017). Understanding and targeting such intercellular networks of communication holds great promise for new advances in the treatment of obesity-associated diseases. We have generated some unique animal models to explore the regulatory networks in inflammatory diseases. This position is supported by a NIH R01 grant.
Expertise in T cell biology is required. Experiences in cellular and molecular immunology (flow cytometry, primary immune cell culture, and mRNA/protein measurement) and in vivo lymphocyte function studies are strongly preferred. Previous experience working with epigenetics or metabolic diseases is helpful, but not essential.¿Good communication and writing skills, willingness to collaborate with colleagues within and out of the laboratory are required.
Houston is the 4th largest city in US and provides a culturally diverse environment with relatively low living cost and no state or city income tax. Houston Methodist Hospital has been named to FORTUNE magazine’s "100 Best Companies to Work for" list since 2006. We offer a competitive package that would match with NIH guidelines.
Houston Methodist Research Institute (HMRI) is located within the heart of the Texas Medical Center, the world’s largest biomedical center. HMRI is affiliated with the top-ranked Weill Cornell Medical College. It has exceptionally well-equipped, state-of-the-art laboratories that provide an excellent atmosphere for outstanding scientific investigation in immunometabolism.
