摘要:

Research Fellow (100031-058)

University of Warwick - Department of Physics

Fixed Term Position for 1 year 6 months.

Applications are invited for a Research Fellow to work under the supervision of Professors Ray Dupree and Steven P. Brown applying advanced solid-state NMR experiments to probe the atomic-level structure of plant secondary cell walls. It will focus on the stello1 mutant of arabidopsis to study the impact of changing cellulose fibril structure on its interaction with other polysaccharides and thus to indicate the molecular requirements for successful cellulose:xylan interaction (which influences the strength of the plant) in vivo. The work, in collaboration with Professor P Dupree, Cambridge University, is high profile1-3 and will use both the 700, 600 and 500 MHz sp5ectrometers of the NMR group and the UK 850 MHz facility together with state-of-the-art (up to 110 kHz) MAS probes.

Candidates must have completed (or be soon to complete) a PhD or equivalent in chemistry, biochemistry or a related discipline. A proven ability in innovative and effective experimental research is essential. Applications are particularly encouraged from candidates with experience in solid state NMR or in applying NMR spectroscopy to biological systems.

You will be able to work independently and as part of a research team and will have excellent communication and scientific writing skills.

If you have not yet been awarded your PhD but are near submission or have recently submitted your PhD, any offers of employment will be made as Research Assistant on level 5 of the University grade structure (£28,936). Upon successful award of your PhD and evidence of this fact, you will be promoted to Research Fellow on the first point of the level 6 of the University grade structure (£29,799).
