摘要:

Research Fellow - 58446

University of Birmingham - School of Biosciences

Fixed term for 36 months

Full time starting salary is normally in the range £29,799 to £38,832. With potential progression once in post to £41,212 a year.

We are looking for a highly motivated Postdoc with a deep interest in epitranscriptomics to join our molecular genetics Drosophila research group in the School of Biosciences, University of Birmingham, UK to follow up on our findings published recently in Nature (Haussmann et al, 2016).

Our laboratory is interested in resolving the function of m6A mRNA methylation in the regulation of gene expression at the maternal to zygotic transition (MZT). We hypothesize that m6A has a key role in switching expression from the maternal to the zygotic genome and that this regulation is key to efficient sex determination and dosage compensation. We are applying a combination of state of the art genetic and molecular tools including NextGen sequencing in a Drosophila genetic model to understand how methylation sites are selected and how methylation levels are determined.

Skills and Experience required are as follows:

  • First degree in Biology, extensive experience of research experience and a PhD or a PhD near completion in biology, genetics, biochemistry or related discipline within the life sciences are required
  • High level analytical capability
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly, e.g. in spoken English, periodic preparation of PowerPoint presentations for progress reports and manuscripts
  • Fluency in relevant models, techniques or methods and ability to contribute to developing new ones. Experience working with Drosophila genetics, cell culture, immunohistochemistry, molecular biology, biochemistry, confocal microscopy and imaging
  • Ability to assess resource requirements and use resources effectively
  • Understanding of and ability to contribute to broader management/administration processes as required

For informal inquiries please contact Dr Matthias Soller (m.soller@bham.ac.uk)

Please note this post is aligned to external funding and therefore the salary on offer is up to a maximum of £31,604 only.
