Cluster hire for the Center for Viral Systems Biology

With the help of a recent $15 million grant from NIH NIAID, we recently established the Center for Viral Systems Biology (CViSB; https://cvisb.org/), which is headquartered in La Jolla, CA. Our mission is to understand the factors contributing to outcomes from infections with highly pathogenic viruses, including Ebola virus and Lassa virus. We will use a combination of large-scale data generation, computational phylogenetics, and machine learning to address these questions. These projects rely on strong long-term collaborations with unique patient and survivor cohorts in Sierra Leone as part of the viral hemorrhagic fever consortium (http://vhfc.org/).

CViSB is a highly collaborative center built on open science principles. Group leaders from CViSB include:

  • Kristian Andersen, The Scripps Research Institute
  • Bob Garry, Tulane University
  • Andrew Su, The Scripps Research Institute
  • Marc Suchard, UCLA
  • Bryan Briney, The Scripps Research Institute
  • Doug Lauffenburger, MIT
  • Galit Alter, Ragon / Harvard
  • John Schieffelin, Tulane University

We have multiple postdoc and staff scientist positions available in La Jolla, Los Angeles, and New Orleans. We are looking for computational scientists, bioinformaticians, data analysts, and wet-lab biologists. We have positions open in the following fields:

  • Experimental Biology
  • Bioinformatics
  • Data Science
  • Computational Phylogenetics
  • Administration
