Post-Doctoral Research Assistant (Diabetes)

We are looking to appoint a Post-Doc Research Assistant in the Immunobiology Department to work with Professor David Leslie. This department has a particular interest in the epigenetics of autoimmune disease, specifically Type 1 Diabetes, and immune therapy of Diabetes. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to help develop lab interests and a willingness to experiment and adapt is essential.

Barts and The London School of Medicine, Barts Health NHS Trust and the Centre for Immunobiology at QMUL each have an international reputation for basic and translational research as well as clinical excellence. The Post-Doctoral Research Assistant will work in the Centre for Immunobiology in the Blizard Institute at Barts and The London Medical School. The successful candidate should have excellent communication skills, together with the ability to organize and motivate others. They should be able to demonstrate enthusiasm and innovation when faced with challenges and will utilize management skills in conducting the research.

Foremost, candidates should demonstrate an ability and willingness to learn. Previous experience in molecular biology is essential. Expertise in handling DNA is particularly desirable as the post will involve established methods in epigenetics. Knowledge of epigenetics and cell biology is desirable but not essential to the post.

The successful candidate will assist in other areas of research sample preparation in mechanistic studies of immune therapy, experience in any of the following would be advantageous:

  • Protein expression
  • Immunoassays
  • Flow cytometry/cell sorting
  • Bisulphite conversion of DNA

This post is full-time for 9 months in the first instance. Starting salary will be on the Queen Mary Salary scale depending on experience. Salary range £32,956-£36,677, inclusive of London Allowance.Benefits include 30 days annual leave, defined benefit pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
