摘要:

We're currently looking for talented scientists to join our innovative academic-style Postdoc. Based at our collaborator lab at National Physical Laboratory (NPL), Teddington, London, you'll be connected to a global pharmaceutical environment, contributing to live projects right from the start. You'll take part in a comprehensive training programme, including a focus on dr ug discovery and development, given access to our existing Postdoctoral research, and encouraged to pursue your own independent research in cutting edge laboratories. It's a newly expanding programme spanning a range of therapeutic areas across a wide range of disciplines.

What's more, you'll have the support of a leading academic advisor, who'll provide you with the guidance and knowledge you need to develop your career. This is an exciting area that hasn't been explored to its full potential, making this an opportunity to make a real difference to the future of medical science.

AstraZeneca is a global, innovation-driven biopharmaceutical business that focuses on the discovery, development and commercialisation of prescription medicines for some of the world's most serious diseases. But we're more than one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies. At AstraZeneca, we're proud to have a unique workplace culture that inspires innovation and collaboration. Here, employees are empowered to express diverse perspectives – and are made to feel valued, energised and rewarded for their ideas and creativity.

This is a cross function role, supporting;

In our Oncology Team, you'll push the boundaries of science every day to overcome that challenge. We've been at the centre of some of the biggest breakthroughs in oncology. In lung cancer, for example, we've brought together complementary expertise to aid discovery and accelerate development in new medicines through a variety of partnerships and initiatives. We're also early adopters of new technologies to support innovation, including CRISPR, genome editing techniques and a next-generation sequencing platform for companion diagnostics in oncology. But we're not stopping there. With a world-class pipeline and some of the best experts in the industry, we're in a great position to develop even more innovative therapeutic approaches.

One of the greatest challenges when discovering and formulating effective medicines lies in mapping their pharmacokinetic and toxicological properties, predicting how new chemicals will react within the human body. We ensure our drug products are safe for clinical trials, and ultimately safe to deliver as novel treatments to patients. To make that happen, you'll be working with truly cutting-edge in silico, in vivo, cellular and molecular technologies to push the boundaries of predictive science.

This Postdoc will be based in world class Mass Spectrometry Imaging group at NPL, Teddington, London, working on data generated as part of Cancer Research UK Grand Challenge ($20m lead by NPL and in partnership with AZ).

The successful candidates will work in a team developing cutting edge techniques for analysing imagin g data from a range of chemical and biomedical techniques. A background on spectroscopy is not a prerequisite for applying, but candidates will need to have a strong background in chemical physics and biomedical image analysis, using statistical and machine learning methods or similar. In addition, candidates should have strong programming skills and detailed knowledge of algorithms for image analysis, working closely with a wide network of world-leading academic and AstraZeneca scientists with the opportunity to research and implement data analysis tools that will change the way science is performed at AstraZeneca and in the wider community.

Education and Experience:

Essential:

  • PhD in relevant field, such as computer science, physics or mathematics.
  • Background in machine learning for image analysis.
  • Multidisciplinary researcher with experience in l arge scale, hyperspectral and/or complex data analysis
  • Skills in data integration and programming in a relevant language

Desirable:

  • Track record in developing new tools and algorithms for studying tissue morphology.
  • Experience with mass spectrometry or metabolomic data
  • Quantitative image analysis and data visualisation
  • Data-driven decision making

Skills and Capabilities:

  • Excellent advocacy, oral and written communication skills with proven publication record
  • Ability to work across teams in a collaborative manner
  • Ability to act as project interface between biology and big data

This is a 3 year programme. 2 years will be a Fixed Term Contract, with a 1 year extension which will be merit based. The role will be based at NPL, Teddington, London with a competitive salary on offer. To apply for this position, please click the apply link below.
