City Rochester State Minnesota Telecommute No Department Radiation Oncology Why Mayo Clinic Highly motivated postdoctoral scientists are invited to join the Translational Neuro-Oncology Laboratory of Jann Sarkaria (http://www.mayo.edu/research/labs/translational-neuro-oncology) to develop novel therapeutic strategies for the treatment of glioblastoma (GBM). Global interests in the lab include understanding the basis of resistance to chemotherapy and radiation, identifying methods to overcome therapy resistance, defining how heterogeneous drug delivery across the blood-brain barrier impacts cellular response to therapy, and integration of novel signal transduction and DNA repair inhibitors into chemo-radiotherapy for treatment of GBM. Many of these studies are supported by an extensive collaborative network that is NIH funded as the MIT/Mayo Physical Sciences Center for Drug Distribution and Drug Efficacy in Brain Tumors (http://psoc.mit.edu/). There is a heavy emphasis on in vivo studies that are supported by an extensive collection of patient-derived xenografts (PDX) developed from GBM and brain metastasis resection specimens. The PDX models are highly characterized at a phenotypic and genomic level with histology, growth kinetics, whole-exome sequencing and RNA sequencing, respectively, and are widely distributed throughout the Neuro-oncology research community as an NINDS-funded National Resource (http://www.mayo.edu/research/labs/translational-neuro-oncology/mayo-clinic-brain-tumor-patient-derived-xenograft-national-resource). Human tissue studies are supported by an extensive human tumor biobank available within the Mayo Clinic Neuro-Oncology program. The laboratory is integrated within the larger Mayo Clinic Neuro-Oncology Program and the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology to facilitate translation of novel findings into clinical trials for GBM patients. The ultimate goal for the laboratory is to define curative treatment strategies for this currently incurable and devastating disease.
