Working in the National Centre for Biotechnology Education (NCBE) the position is to complete a Wellcome Trust project on Synthetic Biology for Schools. The position involves the trial and testing of existing developed molecular biology protocols and the post holder will develop new molecular biology protocols in synthetic biology to fit the project criteria.
 
There will be responsibility for writing up protocols for teacher/technician resources and student resources to be used in the school classroom. The protocols will contain information on the theory and how to safely perform the practicals in schools and colleges.
 
The successful candidate will also produce progress reports for the Wellcome Trust and must be able to meet deadlines within the project plan. They will be able to work with NCBE colleagues to help support the Centre in the provision of educational resources to schools and colleges. In addition the post holder will use their experience to help advise schools on aspects of molecular biology.
 
You will have:
 
Sound molecular laboratory experience.
Good interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to liaise with university staff and various educational agencies.
Proven organisational skills, with strong project management and time management skills.
Ability to use molecular biology software.
Sound writing skills for reports and protocols.
Knowledge of experimental design.
Sound understanding of bacterial transformations.
Understanding of enzymes used in molecular biology.
Understanding of Synthetic Biology.
Ability to work unsupervised and as part of the NCBE team.
