Information about the research
The position is supervised by Dr Ruggero Verre and Prof. Mikael Käll and is placed at the Division of Bionanophotonics (BNP) at the Department of Physics, Chalmers University of Technology.

The BNP group has been engaged in advanced nanophotonics, biophotonics and plasmonics research since the late 1990's and is well known for contributions to fields like nanoplasmonic sensing, surface-enhanced Raman scattering, nanooptical antennas, strong coupling and optical manipulation of nanoparticles. The group has recently expanded their interest to encompass research on high-index dielectric nanophotonics and we expect that this activitity will expand considerably over the next few years.

Chalmers University of Technology is a leading research institution in nanoscience in Sweden and hosts one of northern Europe’s largest and most well-equipped clean rooms dedicated to nanofabrication. The BNP group has access to state-of-the-art optical spectroscopy and microscopy set ups, a wide range of simulations tools and a broad academic network in the field of nanophotonics. We are just about to install a new fs-laser lab that will give new opportunities for advanced optical experiments. Through Chalmers Materials Analysis Laboritory (CMAL), we have easy access to a range of advanced electron microscopes, with cathodoluminescence and electron energy loss spectroscopy capabilities, new infrared and Raman microscopes, etc.

Major responsibilities
The post doc project focuses on experimental analysis of high-index dielectric nanoparticles and metasurfaces, in particular structures made of silicon. The BNP group has recently developed new methods for fabricating colloidal Si particles of various shapes and optical properties [Verre et. al, Adv.Mat. 2017]. We now intend to further develop and explore the application potential of these and similar nanostructures. Depending on the applicant’s experience and interests, the work can focus on optical manipulation experiments, spectroscopic studies (for example based on CL), non-linear spectroscopy/microscopy and applications in bionanophotonics. The successful candidate will be integrated in a team of students and senior researchers with competences ranging from sophisticated nanofabrication and optical analysis to theoretical physics.

Qualifications
The applicant should have a PhD degree in physics, materials science, chemistry, or a related subject area that is not older than two years counting from the start of the position. The applicant should be fluent in spoken and written English and have a solid experience in optical analysis of dielectric and/or plasmonic nanostructures. Additional experience in, for example, ultrafast lasers, colloidal chemistry, surface functionalization, electron microscopy, nanophotonic simulation tools, etc. would be meritorious. 

It is funded by a scholarship available to non-Swedish citizens with a PhD from a non-Swedish university, received not more than two years before the starting date of the scholarship. The scholarship is tax free and lies in the range 25000-27000 SEK per month, depending on previous experience. Chalmers University of Technology will cover a health insurance for you as scholarship holder.
