Postdoctoral Scholar in Insect Virology / Physiology

Department of Entomology & Nematology, University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida, USA

A position is available to work on the use of insect viruses and insect virus-derived proteins toward novel approaches for insect pest management with a focus on lepidopteran and coleopteran systems.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will work with RNA viruses, maintain insect cell lines, and examine protein movement across the insect gut epithelium by use of an Ussing chamber; write quarterly reports and present research progress on a biannual basis.

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD, in entomology, virology, microbiology, biochemistry or a related area

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with cell culture
  • Research experience with insect physiology and / or virology
  • Solid molecular biology and biochemistry skills
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

The position is based in the laboratory of Dr. Bryony C. Bonning, Eminent Scholar and Professor, Department of Entomology and Nematology at University of Florida. The lab provides outstanding infrastructure for cutting edge research and has a strong record of innovation and trainee placement within the agricultural biotechnology industry sector, USDA and academia.
