摘要:

Postdoctoral Research Fellow : Brisbane, Australia

The School of Biomedical Sciences is a distinguished centre for teaching and research in the academic disciplines of Anatomy, Developmental Biology, Physiology, Pharmacology, Neuroscience, and Pathology. The School has over 40 full-time research and teaching staff and is one of the largest Schools of this type in Australia. It plays a vital function at UQ in serving as the link between the activities of research-only UQ institutes (Queensland Brain Institute (QBI), Institute of Molecular Bioscience (IMB), Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (AIBN)) and the broader research goal of translating research into clinical practice. Our diverse and state-of-the-art research provides an exciting environment for national and international research fellows as well as research higher degree students.

In addition to its graduate research programs, the School teaches into the postgraduate medical program (MD), and to undergraduate students in a wide variety of courses in Science, and Health and Behavioural Sciences.

The role: The successful applicant in this career-advancing opportunity will be a joint appointment between the Laboratory for Experimental Neurocritical Care (Dr Marc J Ruitenberg) and the Neuroimmunology and Cognition Laboratory (Dr Jana Vukovic). The position offers opportunities to work collaboratively with industry, to address individually-developed and collaboratively-generated research questions, and also to supervise honours, masters and doctoral students.

The successful applicant will conduct high impact research on the biology of microglia and other myeloid cells in models of brain and spinal cord injury. The overarching aim of this research will be to explore novel immunomodulatory interventions, and to discover new molecular targets to regulate myeloid cell function under neuroinflammatory conditions. The successful applicant will be encouraged to apply for her/his own funding but have access to ongoing research support and world-class facilities. She/he will become part of an outstanding research environment that is focused on advancing our understanding of complex neurological conditions and translating basic research findings into better health outcomes.

The person: As the successful applicant, you should hold the required qualification(s) and research skills in the relevant disciplines (see Position Description). You should also have a strong desire to develop a highly successful and productive research career in the biomedical sciences, good general research skills, a strong methodological background, excellent analytic and statistical skills, very good writing abilities, and the capacity to work with multidisciplinary research teams.

The University of Queensland values diversity and inclusion. Applications are particularly encouraged from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Remuneration: This is a full-time, two year fixed-term appointment at Academic Level A. The remuneration package will be in the range AUD$81,545 – $87,535 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range AUD$95,407- $102,415 p.a.).
