The Position
CSIRO Postdoctoral Fellows provide opportunities to scientists and engineers, who have completed their doctorate and have less than three years relevant postdoctoral work experience. These fellowships will help launch their careers, provide experience that will enhance their career prospects, and facilitate the recruitment and development of potential leaders for CSIRO.
As a Postdoctoral Fellow, you will have a great opportunity to work with an award-winning team, and your career development will benefit from interactions with Data61’s world-class researchers. You will be expected to produce high quality research outcomes including publications and demos in world-leading venues, investigating various data analytics based research topics related to infrastructure and asset management, such as factor analysis, failure prediction, dynamic process, prioritization and decision support for maintenance, etc.
Under the directon of Senior research scientists you will:
Carry out innovative, impactful research of strategic importance to CSIRO that will, where possible, lead to novel and important scientific outcomes.
Conduct research on data analytics for infrastructure and asset management.
Develop algorithm and system for intelligent infrastructure/asset management.
Conduct data pre-processing, analysis, and other necessary tasks related to the research problem.
Undertake regular reviews of relevant literature and patents.
Produce high quality scientific and/or engineering papers suitable for publication in quality journals, for client reports and granting of patents.
Prepare appropriate conference papers and present those at conferences as agreed with your supervisor.
Participate in CSIRO's Postdoctoral Training Program.
Location: Eveleigh, NSW
Salary: CSOF4 - AU $78K - $88K plus up to 15.4% superannuation
Tenure: Specified term of 1 year and 8 months
To be successful you will need:
A doctorate (or will shortly satisfy the requirements of a PhD) in a relevant discipline area, such as machine learning, data mining or related area.
Strong programming skills
Demonstrated strong motivation for industrial innovation
A record of publications in quality, peer reviewed journals
High level written and oral communication skills with the ability to represent the research team effectively internally and externally, including at national and international conferences.
The ability to work effectively and collaborate as part of a multi-disciplinary team, plus demonstrated motivation and discipline to carry out autonomous research.
A record of science innovation and creativity, plus the ability & willingness to incorporate novel ideas and approaches into scientific investigations.
Experience in one or more of the following is desirable: Bayesian nonparametrics, Nonhomogenous stochastic process, large scale data mining/processing/inference, or experience with dynamic processes/networks, or spatial-temporal data and software tool development based on platforms such as Spark, Azure, etc.
