Job Description
The Post-Doctoral Appointee Program is designed to recruit outstanding Ph.D. applicants to assist a line organization in meeting its mission objectives and to provide a professional technical work environment for the employee. The Ph.D. must have been conferred within one to five years prior to employment. These assignments are for a one-year period, with the option at management’s discretion to serve no more than five additional one-year assignments. The Mechanics of Materials Department is seeking a postdoctoral computational analyst to perform simulations of shock, impact, and blast loading in support of national security-related programs. The analyst will utilize Sandia computational codes and high-performance computational platforms to perform the simulations. The analyst will collaborate with Sandia code development teams, with customers in other Sandia groups, and with experimentalists conducting related experiments.Required:
+ PhD degree in Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace, Engineering Mechanics or other related discipline + Experience with modeling and simulation tools; ability to assess tool capabilities and limitations when selecting and utilizing tools to perform simulations + Ability to communicate results effectively in oral and written forms + Ability to work in a collaborative team environment + Ability to obtain and maintain a US DOE Q clearance
Desired:
+ Evidence of relevant and exceptional research achievements as demonstrated in the form of technical publications, presentations, software tools, and/or knowledge of applications, or + Skilled at utilizing high-performing computing resources for performing large-scale simulations, or + Knowledge of shock and impact physics, or + Technical background in solid mechanics, materials science, or related areas, or + Ability to plan and carry out complex experiments or to interact as an analyst with those conducting experiments, or + Experience with code development for complex computational tools, preferably as part of a team, or + Proficiency in C++ or Fortran programming
