Job Description
The Sarioglu Lab, in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Georgia Tech, is seeking a highly creative and driven postdoctoral fellow who is interested in working at the interface of engineering and biomedical sciences. Motivated by healthcare and biomedical research needs, Sarioglu Lab is developing technologies to investigate and manipulate biological systems on the micro and nanoscale. Using advanced fabrication techniques, we build devices that utilize microfluidics, microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), optics, electronics and signal processing. Through multidisciplinary collaborations, our lab uses these technologies as clinical microdevices for disease detection and monitoring and as bioanalytical instruments for high-throughput molecular and cellular analysis (e.g., Nature Methods 2015 PMID: 25984697, Lab Chip 2016 PMID: 27021807). The successful applicant will be expected to design, develop and test innovative lab-on-a-chip systems that can analyze biological/clinical samples for basic research and diagnostic applications. The position offers exciting opportunities to closely work with a highly-motivated multi-disciplinary group of scientists and engineers with an entrepreneurial mindset as well as to gain unique experience in working with clinical collaborators.Candidates with a PhD degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Biomedical Engineering or related disciplines are welcome to apply. Strong knowledge and experimental research experience in developing microfluidic devices for biomedical applications is required. A strong background in microbiology techniques (e.g., tissue culture, immunostaining) as well as experience in characterization tools such as fluorescence microscopy and flow cytometry are also required. Additionally, computational skills in data analysis/processing using tools such as Matlab and/or LabVIEW are highly desired. Scientific productivity and creativity evidenced by a strong record of peer-reviewed publications is expected. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to work independently on multiple projects and to mentor and collaborate with graduate and undergraduate students. The candidate should also have very strong written and verbal English skills, communication and interpersonal skills.
Successful candidate will have a joint affiliation with Petit Institute for Bioengineering & Bioscience and Institute for Electronics and Nanotechnology.
