Job Description

A nanomedicine postdoctoral fellow position is immediately available at Division of Nanomedicine and California NanoSystems Institute (CNSI) at the University of California, Los Angeles. Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, the postdoc fellow will serve as a key member of our interdisciplinary nanomedicine research group engaged in the translational development and testing of therapeutic nanoparticles. The postdoc fellow will develop, optimize, and synthesize polymer-based nanocarrier for gene delivery. He or she will conduct in vitro and in vivo studies to evaluate the efficacy and safety of nanotherapeutics. The postdoc fellow will work to link the physicochemical characteristics of nanomedicines to therapeutic outcomes in tissue culture cells and animal models. As part of the day-to-day duties, the candidate will develop and synthesize particles and conduct physical and chemical characterization of nanomaterials in a variety of biological systems, utilizing standardized and specialized characterization techniques (Transmission Electron Microscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy, HPLC, LC-MS etc.). The postdoc fellow will plan, prepare, and execute tissue culture experiments utilizing a range of cell lines. Candidate will develop, prepare, and perform in vivo biodistribution studies, PK/PD studies and efficacy studies in mice. The postdoc fellow will analyze and communicate the data to researchers and the PI and prepare manuscripts for publication. The postdoc fellow will assist the PI in development of grant applications. A Ph.D. in pharmaceutical sciences, nano biotechnology, or equivalent, plus experience in conducting nanochemistry, dose-form design, in vitro tissue culture assays, and in vivo studies required.

Type of Supervision Received:
The postdoc fellow will work under direct supervision of the Principal Investigator. The postdoc fellow will be expected to perform tasks with a large degree of independence, meeting with supervisor to determine project goals, strategies, and priorities. Work is reviewed on an ongoing basis.

Skills Required:
• PhD in pharmaceutical science or equivalent major with nano drug delivery expertise
• Experience of synthesizing, handling, and characterization of therapeutic nanocarriers
• Experience operating characterization equipment including but not limited to: cryoEM, TEM, XRD, DLS, BET, UV-vis, HPLC and LC-MS
• Understanding of cell and molecular biology is required
• Experience conducting in vitro experiments to study efficacy and toxicity
• Experience conducting animal studies is required.
• Strong publication record
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment
• Strong communication skills to effectively communicate in oral and written form with PIs, and others, including industry representatives
• Ability to handle multitasking assignments, prioritization, and troubleshooting
• Candidates with polymer-based drug delivery or bio-imaging expertise are encouraged to apply
