Postdoctoral Scientist in Protein Biophysics/Biochemistry for Studying Single-Molecule Protein Dynamics : Rehovot, Israel

Large protein machines coordinate motions of their subunits and domains in order to function properly. The biophysical mechanisms behind this coordination are of major interest to our lab. In a European Research Council (ERC) funded project, we seek to measure in real time large-scale motions within selected machines such as the molecular chaperone GroEL and the disaggregation machine ClpB, using state-of-the-art single-molecule fluorescence techniques. Indeed, we are developing an ambitious program with the goal to measure the allosteric, function-related structural transitions of domains and subunits within these machines.

As a postdoctoral fellow in the lab you will be involved in developing novel methods to selectively label individual subunits within a multi-subunit machine. You will also label the proteins and perform single-molecule experiments on them, using our home-built optical microscopes. Finally, you will learn how to use sophisticated statistical analysis in order to extract from the data dynamic information with a time resolution of microseconds.
