Job Description

Summary Statement:
The UCLA Center for Water Technology Research (WaTeR) has a position open for a Data/Web Systems Specialist for a research project on the development of membrane-based separation systems (e.g., MF, UF, NF, RO) and integrated system monitoring and control for water treatment and desalination. The project will involve system design, process optimization, integration of novel process sensors with system control, and development of a controller with embedded computing to enable model-based control. This position provides a unique opportunity to be involved with and contribute to a globally visible program in water technology and interact with collaborators and affiliates of the WaTeR Center from industry and water agencies.

The mission of the WaTeR is to advance technologies of water production in order to develop new and economical alternative sources of potable, irrigation, and consumptive water uses. The Center activities encompass science-based innovation, technology evaluation, advanced education, and rapid information dissemination.

The University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) is an exceptional research institution in an attractive and comfortable campus located in West Los Angeles. Responsibilities:
The Data Systems Specialist will have the following major responsibilities:
• Designing and implementing integrated data management system for large complex and heterogeneous data sets (structured/unstructured) from internal and external sources. The data management system must be integrated with control, modeling, and visualization packages currently being developed at the WaTeR. It is critical that the data management system is implemented as a web-based infrastructure using open source components
• Developing modern web based user interfaces for control, modeling, simulation, and data analysis tools
• Routine maintenance of WaTeR cyberinfrastructure hardware and software. This includes maintaining equipment, administering supplies and processing requisition orders
• Assist in preparation of publications for peer reviewed journals, representing the center at various working group meetings and national/international conferences
• Assist in preparing proposals for funding to federal and non-federal granting agencies
• Produce supporting documents, manuals and training materials for developed applications
• Provide systems support for members of the WaTeR group
