About HHMI

Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) is a science philanthropy whose mission is to advance biomedical research and science education for the benefit of humanity. We empower exceptional scientists and students to pursue fundamental questions about living systems, and work to share scientific discoveries with researchers, students, and science-curious individuals around the world.

Founded in 1953 by aviator and industrialist Howard R. Hughes, HHMI is headquartered in Chevy Chase, Maryland, and employs more than 2,500 people across the U.S.

Job Description

The Crabtree Laboratory at Stanford University is seeking a creative, accomplished, and highly motivated postdoctoral scholar to work within our group of 12 graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.

Principal Responsibilities:

The Crabtree Laboratory is interested in chromatin biology and the genetics of human disease, including neurologic diseases and cancer.  We have been mining large data bases to probe the mechanisms used by chromatin regulatory complexes.  In addition, we have been developing new technical approaches to understand the fundamental mechanism of action of ATP-dependent chromatin remodeling complexes, which are the most commonly mutated chromatin regulators in human disease.  Mutations in these complexes are implicated in nearly 25% of human cancers and a large number of human neurologic diseases.

The successful candidate will work with the PI to develop and execute an innovative research program involving analysis of genomic data in mice and humans including evolutionary selection.  In addition, expertise in modeling of complex kinetics of chromatin regulators has been an ongoing area of interest of our lab.

Preferred Qualifications:

·         Ph.D. in Computational Science, Bioinformatics, Genetics, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Bioengineering, Biophysics, or aligned field, with a track record of publication in peer-reviewed journals.

Expertise and interest in one or more of the following areas:

·         Computational analysis of genome-wide chromatin states

·         Computational analysis of large human genome sequence data sets

·         Kinetic analysis of chromatin regulation

·         Chromatin biochemistry

Upon application, please include the following materials:

·         A cover letter that describes your research and career goals, and your expertise or experience

·         Curriculum vitae, including a publication list with a brief (2-3 sentence) description of your contributions to published work.

·         Names and contact information for 3-5 references.
