Computational Post-Doctoral Position at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory.

Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory invites applications for a joint post-doctoral position in the laboratories of Gholson Lyon & Jesse Gillis. The focus will be on developing computational methods to understand the basis of a highly targeted disease, TAF1 syndrome. The Lyon lab recently published the discovery of this X-linked syndrome associated with sequence variants in TAF1. Its cardinal features include dystonia, intellectual disability, and other dysmophologies.

Our group currently has access to the largest known TAF1 Syndrome cohort and mutation database in the world. As such, we are uniquely positioned to perform a robust set of experiments that fully capture the TAF1 Syndrome phenotype and its molecular etiology, which can reveal how TAF1 is contributing to disease phenotypes. While our focus is on TAF1, the application of methods developed may be far broader as the interpretation of rare human variation remains a critical and unsolved problem.

The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary team at the Stanley Institute for Cognitive Genomics at CSHL working to understand the molecular basis of TAF1 syndrome. The expected duration of the position is 2 years with renewal at the end of each year and the possibility of extension, depending on the success of the project.  A broad range of computational backgrounds are suitable for this position.

Position Requirements:

A broad range of backgrounds are suitable for this position, although experience in bioinformatics or computational biology is preferred and a Ph.D. is required; preferably a candidate near graduation or has graduated within the past year. Exceptional applicants without a formal computational background will also be considered, particularly if they are familiar with standard bioinformatics tools. Familiarity with either Matlab or R is a plus.
