Postdoc position on characterizing disease ribosomes in the Lund Group at BRIC : Copenhagen, Denmark

Postdoc position on characterizing disease ribosomes in the Lund Group at BRIC, University of Copenhagen
It is becoming clear that the ribosome is not a constitutive protein production machine. Rather, its activities are likely regulated by alterations in rRNA modification states and ribosomal protein composition. Furthermore, there is accumulating evidence that pools of specialized ribosomes exist in the cell. This project hypothesizes that, during disease, ribosome pools favoring the translation of mRNAs important for the disease phenotype may become over-represented. Hence, the aim is to characterize ribosomes from normal and cancer cells using a combination of biochemical and NGS methods.

The group
The Lund group is an international and dynamic research group comprising several postdocs, PhD students and Masters students. Research in the Lund group currently has several focuses including the function and regulation of various classes of non-coding RNAs in human diseases (http://www.bric.ku.dk/Research/Lund_Group/).

Project
The successful candidate will develop a research project to identify and characterize the functional roles of ribosomal proteins and rRNA modifications more frequently associated with “disease ribosomes”, primarily in cancer cells. Furthermore, high-throughput screenings will be used to discover novel ligands specifically targeting “disease ribosomes”.

Start: Preferably late spring/summer 2016 or after agreement
Duration: 3 years

Qualifications
We expect you to be a highly motivated and highly ambitious scientist with the following qualifications:
• A PhD in Life Sciences
• Documented experience in RNA and protein research
• Excellent technical and collaborative skills
• Excellent English skills written and spoken
• Previous experience in high-throughput screening, CRISPR genome editing and protein characterization by mass spectrometry would be advantageous.
For further information regarding the position, please contact professor Anders H. Lund (anders.lund@bric.ku.dk).

Place of employment
The employment is at BRIC, University of Copenhagen. BRIC is located in the Biocenter, close to the center of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in a dynamic and international research environment. Our research facilities include modern laboratories and a number of core facilities shared between the 23 research groups at BRIC and the neighboring Finsen Laboratory. We have weekly journal clubs, data clubs, seminars with invited speakers and a young researchers club ASAP and our own PhD program, MoMeD. BRIC actively participates in the European alliance, EU-life consisting of 13 excellent life science research institutions http://eu-life.eu/
Please read more about the Lund group and BRIC on http://www.bric.ku.dk/

Terms of salary and employment
Salary, pension and terms of employment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Academics Central organization. Currently, the monthly salary starts at 32.095 DKK/ca. 4.250 Euro plus pension. Depending on qualifications, a higher salary may be negotiated.
Non-Danish and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions, if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.
The position is covered by the “Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff at the Universities” of June 28, 2013.

2. CV incl. education, work/research experience, language skills and other skills relevant for the position.
3. A certified/signed copy of a) PhD certificate and b) Master of Science certificate. If the PhD is not completed, a written statement from the supervisor will do.
4. List of publications.

Letters of recommendation
Furthermore, the applicant should provide two letters of recommendation. To be taken into consideration, the letter must be signed by the supporting person on paper with institutional letterhead and in PDF-format. The letters should be received before deadline on jobs@bric.ku.dk with subject “name candidate-Lund-Postdoc-March 2016”; preferably by the supporting person.
