Fixed term appointment for 2 years, Full Time

We are seeking an enthusiastic and ambitious Postdoctoral Research Assistant with excellent academic, interpersonal and organisational skills to undertake research projects as part of the newly formed Centre for Biomarker Research directed by Dr Patrick McHugh. Your main role will be to undertake research in accordance with specific research projects under the supervision of Dr McHugh. The Centre for Biomarker Research primarily looks at identifying, understanding and developing molecules relating to several CNS conditions (e.g. Multiple Sclerosis, Pain and Neurodegeneration). Moreover, the centre looks at the development of advanced model systems (e.g. iPS cells) for the purpose of drug development, as well as developing potential novel therapies. This program will give you the opportunity to not only work on several of these projects within the centre, but also to develop your own research within these areas.

You will hold a First or Upper second class Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology/Genetics, a PhD in a relevant discipline and have research interests and experience in the broad area of health/medical research. You will have experience in cell culture (stem cells), RNA and protein expression analysis, DNA analysis, complex genetic analysis e.g. GWAS, CRISPR/Cas9, advanced microscopy and the handling and processing of clinical samples. You will have experience of analysing data and writing-up research results for publication in peer-viewed journals and the ability to write grant applications. You will also supervise other research-based students.
