POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW TO PROBE THE HIV RESERVOIR

Job Description

LAB WITH UNIQUE APPROACHES TO PROBE THE HIV RESERVOIR SEEKS MOTIVATED POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW

Position is immediately available in the laboratory of Dr. Una O'Doherty in the Transfusion Medicine Division of the University of Pennsylvania. The O'Doherty Lab uses multiple approaches to quantify and characterize the HIV reservoir. The long-term goal of the group is to uncover mechanisms by which HIV expression is regulated. Ultimately, we are interested in probing the requirements for reservoir clearance. The lab has long-term expertise in quantifying HIV reservoirs and more recent experiences in sequencing and biochemical approaches. Most recently, the lab adapted Fiber-optic Array Scanning Technology (FAST), a high throughput technology, for use in the quantification of HIV-expressing primary cells derived from patients on therapy.

This position will focus on utilizing FAST as a tool to study the HIV reservoir expression and clearance. The lab is also interested in characterizing differences between latent and productive infection and between infection of resting and activated cells in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo. The lab has fruitful collaborations with several investigators at Penn and NIH, including clinicians and scientists, whose expertise include transcription and translational control of HIV, CARs therapy and CTL control of HIV as occurs in Elite controllers.

This position will be supported by NIH- 1R01AI120011.

To be considered, the successful candidate must have:
• A PhD and/or MD ideally in the areas of virology, immunology, cell biology
• Expertise in molecular biology, primary cell culture and flow cytometry
• Experience with the production of lentiviral vectors is a plus
• The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual, with a track record of productive research demonstrated by first author publication(s), with excellent communication skills and willingness to work in a highly collaborative environment.
