Genetics Post-Doctoral Fellow – Genomic Target Validation : King of Prussia, PA, United States

Postdoctoral fellowships (3 year) are now available within the Genetics Department which focus on collaboration with the newly announced Seattle Institute for Translational Science (WA), to apply new generation genomics approaches to human target validation projects. In recent years, there has been an explosion of genomics and epigenomic data generated and available in the public domain. However, utilization and translation of this information for the benefit of human health has lagged behind. This role will focus on applying novel genomics strategies under development at Seattle Institute for Translational Science, to specific drug discovery programs in the area of new target identification at GSK. This role will provide a unique opportunity to learn about novel genomics approaches from a group who were key contributors to theENCODE and related projects, through remote and onsite (in Seattle) interactions. The role will include the opportunity to design laboratory experiments to meet specific project or therapy area needs. The fellow will also learn about the science of drug discovery and development across multiple therapy areas. It is expected that this approach will lead to high profile publications which will serve to move the science of genomic target validation forward.
As a post doctoral fellow with GSK, you will work closely with multi-disciplinary teams of geneticists, biologists, chemists, physicians, clinical scientists and computational biologists. The Genetics Department at GSK is a leader within the pharmaceutical Industry, with deep expertise across many genetic disciplines, considerable impact on R&D drug discovery programs and an extensive publication record. GSK provides a supportive environment for young talent career development. We strongly encourage interactions with the external scientific community and there will be excellent opportunities for publication and conference presentation.

Basic qualifications:

• Recent PhD in genetics/genomics or equivalent research experience.
• Proficiency in statistical genetics approaches and methods is required
• Computational experience with epigenetic/genomic data, and/or data analyses is an advantage.
• Good verbal and written communication skills and ability to work well with multi-disciplinary teams.
• Strong interest in publication in peer reviewed journals.
