Applications are invited for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Senior Research Associate to work within the Digital Public Health theme of the new EPSRC Digital Economy Research Centre (DERC) at Newcastle University.

You will work under the leadership of co-investigator Professor Ashley Adamson and in collaboration with theme co-investigators Prof Falko Sniehotta and Dr Madeline Balaam, as well as other DERC co-investigators and researchers (25 research associates overall led by Principal Investigator Professor Patrick Olivier, Open Lab, Newcastle University). You will be an associate member of Fuse (UK Clinical Research Collaborative Centre of Excellence for Translational Research in Public Health) with opportunity to engage in Fuse activities.

You will be responsible for planning and delivering an action-oriented programme of cross-disciplinary research into new approaches to digital public health. You will have experience in community health and/or public health and expertise ideally to include qualitative research or mixed methods.

You will have a PhD in public health, social/behavioural sciences or health services related research, with a track record of publication in high ranking journals in your field.

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious researcher to develop research that will produce a demonstrable impact on public health and positive health communities. You will be encouraged to think creatively and contribute your ideas, you will be joining a team including design and technology experts and public health policy and practice partners, to develop real world solutions for some of the most pressing problems in public health. Particular areas of interest include the use digital technology to: (a) explore the participatory role for digital technologies in delivery of public health and potential for user-generated public health interventions in creating positive health communities; b) delivery of scalable on-line public health initiatives and (c) tackle the significant inequalities in health 

You will be collocated with the DERC team of 25 postdoctoral researchers (at Open Lab, Newcastle University). This post would ideally suit an individual who already has expertise in research relevant to public health delivery and interest in the design, development and evaluation of real-world interventions for which digital technologies are a key element.

The focus of this position is on research excellence and there will be no obligatory teaching responsibilities although opportunities will be made available to support the post-holder’s career development.
