Postdoc Position in Molecular Microbiology: Stress survival in model and pathogenic E. coli : Copenhagen, Denmark

A 3-year postdoctoral position is available in BASP, the Danish National Research and Novo Nordisk Foundations Centre for Bacterial Stress Response and Persistence. BASP is a newly created dynamic and inspirational research environment hosting eight senior researchers and their research groups working in molecular microbiology and related fields. The open position is part of a collaboration between Associate Professor Sine Lo Svenningsen and Associate Professor Michael A. Sørensen, both at the Department of Biology, University of Copenhagen. The project will be carried out in close collaboration with the other BASP research groups.

Area of research
The overall aim of the BASP Centre is to better understand the survival mechanisms that bacteria employ in response to environmental stresses. In this project, we will use deep RNA sequencing alone and in combination with co-immunoprecipitation to identify regulators of stress-survival in model and pathogenic strains of E. coli, followed by a molecular/biochemical/genetic characterization of candidate regulatory interactions.

Qualifications
Candidates should hold a PhD-degree within the area of bacterial growth physiology or bacterial biochemistry/genetics. Experience from independent research in the field of molecular microbiology is a requirement and a candidate who has made documented contributions to the fields of regulation by noncoding RNA, bacterial stress responses, bacterial genetics, and/or bacterial transcriptomics will be preferred. Excellent written and spoken English is a requirement for the position. The candidate should document a track record of scientific publications, and have the ability and desire to work autonomously as well as in a team.

Applications must be in English, and must include:
• Letter of motivation including a description of project-related research experience (max. 2 pages).
• Curriculum vitae incl. education, previous employments, teaching experience, and other skills relevant for the position (max. 2 pages).
• Complete list of publications.
• Copy of master and PhD diploma.
• Full contact details of 1-2 references. Letters of recommendation may be included.

Shortlist:
The further process after expiry of the application deadline the authorized recruitment manager selects applicants for assessment on the advice of the employment committee. All applicants are immediately notified whether their application has been passed for assessment.

Terms of salary and employment
Salary, pension and terms of employment are in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Academics Central organization. The salary depends on seniority, as agreed between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The position will be at the level of postdoctoral fellow and the basic salary according to seniority is 32.095 – 33.792DKK/month plus pension. A supplement could be negotiated.
