Post-Doctoral Positions in Cancer and Developmental Biology : Charlotte, NC, United States

Multiple postdoctoral positions are available immediately in the Julius L. Chambers Biomedical/Biotechnology Research Institute at North Carolina Central University. We are located on the North Carolina Research Campus in Charlotte area. This campus has state-of-the-art core facilities in the areas of genomics, metabolomics, proteomics and microscopy.

Three positions in the cancer biology lab: We are seeking self-motivated postdoctoral scientists to study mammary stem cell reprogramming, epigenetic regulation and apoptosis in breast cancer etiology, prevention and experimental therapeutics. Our research focuses on hormone and tyrosine kinase mediated signaling, gene expression and hierarchical structure of mammary epithelial cells, in response to various preventive or etiological factors targeting hormone-growth factor crosstalk. Candidates with strong background in Cancer biology and expertise in signal transduction, apoptosis, cell cycle, epigenetic regulation and bioinformatics tools are encouraged to apply.

Specific positions:

Position 1 will focus on epigenetic/functional genomics in cancer and developmental biology. We will use microarray and next generation sequencing technology (ChIP-Seq, FAIRE-Seq) to profile genome-wide changes in mammary tissues and cancer cells with different treatments. Desired background: experience in molecular genetics and genome-wide DNA/RNA analysis.

Position 2 will focus on identification and analysis of mammary progenitor/stem cells markers associated developmental factors that may modulate breast cancer risk later in life. Desired background: experience in cell biology, IHC/IF, confocal microscopy, animal models and basic molecular biology.

Position 3 will focus on mechanisms of experimental therapeutics and drug resistance in novel breast cancer therapy. Desired background: experience in signal transduction, apoptosis, gene expression regulation, miRNA, lentivirus and basic molecular biology.

Interested candidates with a Ph.D. degree in biomedical sciences and appropriate background should submit curriculum vitae, a cover letter with research background, and contact information for three references to: Dr. Xiaohe Yang (Cancer Biology Lab).

A postdoc position in the developmental biology Lab to study hematopoiesis and cardiovascular development of zebrafish. We use molecular, genetic, and transgenic approaches to study the specification, patterning, and differentiation of the blood and vascular system. Our areas of research interest include: cellular signaling, hematopoiesis, vasculogenesis and angiogenesis; natural products and drug discovery for therapeutics. Applicants must be a strong team player and have excellent collaborative skills. The candidates have hands-on experience with cell, molecular, developmental biology and animal model is preferable. Previous research experience with zebrafish biology is a plus.

North Carolina Central University, at North Carolina Research Campus, 500 Laureate Way, Kannapolis NC 28081, is dedicated to building a diverse community in its training and employment programs.
