Biomedical Research : Cleveland, OH, United States

Post-doctoral position at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio

The Steinmetz Laboratory of Biomolecular Science and Technology is seeking a post-doctoral fellow to develop nanoparticle-based carriers for integrated molecular imaging approaches and therapeutic intervention. Specifically the project will entail the molecular engineering of plant virus-based probes targeted to molecular receptors involved in disease progression to delivery either magnetic resonance contrast agents or toxic payloads. One project will focus on evaluation of molecular MRI probes in the setting of prostate cancer; another project will focus on the study of drug delivery vehicles targeting breast cancer. The work will include genetic manipulation, bioconjugation, protein expression in bacteria and plants, self-assembly of nanoparticle complexes, nanoparticle characterization such as TEMICP, gel electrophoresis, UV/Vis, etc. Nanoparticle probes will be evaluated in tissue culture and in preclinical animal models.

The responsibilities of this position include planning and executing scientific projects. He/she will prepare manuscripts and contribute preliminary data, background and significance, and experimental design for grant proposals. He/she will present and discuss scientific findings in scientific meetings. He/she will have the opportunity to collaborate within our research program and laboratory, which is interdisciplinary bridging materials science and biomedical research, including drug delivery, imaging, and diagnostics. Collaboration will also be fostered across the University, the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center and Cardiovascular Research Institute.

We seek highly a motivated, creative scientist/engineer, who enjoys an interdisciplinary, open, and collaborative environment. Applicant qualifications include a strong background in any of the following areas: molecular biology (genetic engineering), nanotechnology, materials characterization, microscopy and spectroscopy, bioconjugation chemistry, virology, cell biology, immunology, preclinical studies, including MR imaging. The post-doctoral candidate may supervise laboratory graduate students and undergraduate students in conducting sample preparation, experimental design and data analysis of a variety of projects. The candidate should have a PhD in Molecular Biology, Virology, Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related fields. Post-doctoral research experience is not required (and not preferred).
